FSTD QUALIFICATION LEVELS FOR FULL FLIGHT SIMULATORS

FFS are certified at Levels A-D, with Level D requiring the highest complexity and capabilities. The training and certification requirements of AFG’s customers needs the use of the Level D simulator to obtain specific type and multi-engine ratings, while Levels A-C are used to receive certifications and hours for smaller or less complex aircraft.

A Level D FFS is the most advanced type of flight simulator available and must include a full replica of an exact make, model, and series of aircraft cockpit. It must perform in the same way as the actual aircraft. FFS have both visual and motion capabilities, and are used by pilots to obtain their Regulatory Requirements for Flight Training. To ensure that its handling characteristics are representative of a real plane, each FFS is analyzed against actual aircraft flight data.

FFS no longer receive certifications for Levels A-B and only temporary Level C Certifications are issued to new entrant aircrafts.
